The year 2010 represented a year of intense business activity for aicep Global Parques, yet different from that of previous years. On the one hand, it was the first year of the new term of office of the Directors of the company, whereby the fact that the Board of Directors was reduced from seven to five members should be highlighted. Furthermore, the change in the composition of the Executive Committee is also noteworthy, with only the President maintaining his position. However, the financial year of 2010 was largely affected by the impact of the crisis that had occurred in 2008 and 2009, both in terms of raw material and real estate (subprime) as a projection of the international financial crisis, and consequently, of an economic crisis at global scale of dimensions unknown since the Great Depression of 1929.
The reflection developed within the Board of Directors led to the consolidation of the strategy that had been followed in the company, in connection with the classification and promotion of the products produced; to the reinforcement of the coordination with the main shareholder - aicep Portugal Global - in the promotion campaigns of Portugal as a privileged destination of FDI; as well as to the cooperation, both in terms of strategy and actions, with several partners in the fields of logistics and infrastructure, of which the Sines Port Administration (“APS”) deserves special mention.
In the period examined, the effort to reclassify the business parks of Sintra (Albiz) and Setúbal (BlueBiz) as well as the development of actions necessary to the realization of investments made in the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (“ZILS”) took place concomitantly with the demobilization or re-scheduling of important projects that have a direct impact on the company’s net profit for the year.
In relation to the difficulties mentioned above, the company responded with strategic foresight and determined action. On the one hand, an effort was made to clarify the relationships with several acting bodies, namely bodies in which aicep Global Parques has interest of associative or corporate nature, and on the other hand, campaigns promoting our products and the country were intensified, in strict collaboration with aicep Portugal Global, our reference shareholder, and with APS concerning the promotion of one of the main Portuguese logistic products - the industrial, logistics and port complex of Sines. In this context, several actions were carried out in our country, such as the reception of business and official delegations from China, Luxembourg and Equatorial Guinea, amongst others; the Entrepreneurial Forum China/PLP, Portugal Tecnológico, both events organized by AICEP in which this company took part, as well as the organization of business and diplomatic visits to our products, with special mention given to ZILS.
Abroad, we participated in fairs and other events in locations as far as Shanghai, Macau, Luanda, Cape Verde, Madrid or Mérida, whilst promoting Portugal and our products and business localisation services.
In that regard, it is worthwhile to highlight the adjustment made to the development and exploration model of Global Find - a procurement product for business localisations in our country according to criteria defined by the investor, more in line with the indications received from potential users and sponsors, as well as the clarification of the relationship that this product has with Global Force - an area of service provision to companies and other bodies in the fields of conception and management of business hosting and setting up of business units.
One last mention must be made in order to highlight the work done by the internal structures and their collaborators to whom the company has continued to dedicate special attention in their continuous qualification as an essential medium to raise the competitiveness of the company to a sustained level and also to align it with its vision - to be recognized as a national reference partner in the support given to strategies and actions of business localisation.
