Location

Sintra is a Portuguese town and municipality in the region of Lisbon with approx. 33,000 inhabitants.

The municipality occupies 317 km² of land and has 507,170 inhabitants (2004), subdivided into 20 parishes and is bordered at the north by the municipality of Mafra, at the east by Loures and Odivelas, at the southeast by Amadora, at the south by Oeiras and Cascais and at the west by the Atlantic Ocean.

It was classified by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape and Heritage of Humanity area and is one of those magic places where nature and man interact in perfect harmony.

The town of Sintra has declined to obtain the status of city, although it is seat to the second most populated municipality of Portugal, according to the Municipal Council of Sintra.
